Maybe Punthuk Setumbu is not really familiar for some people, but the name was already well known for sunrise hunter. I also know the name of the place from of one of the tour agencies at Sosrowijayan street, Malioboro. I came ther with my friend from Netherlands who want to visit Borobudur Temple.
At 4 am we had already departed from Jogja . We need about 1 hour driving by car to reach Punthuk Setumbu. Still very sleepy, but for the beautiful of sunrise we must be willing to resist sleep. Punthuk Setumbu located about 4 kilometers from Borobudur Temple. I got there around 5 am. It turns out that many other tourists who come, seen from the parking lot has full. Ticket prices in Punthuk Setumbu is 15 thousand rupiah for local tourist and 30 thousand fotr foreigner (September 2013).
After reached the ticket counter does not mean that we can enjoy the sun directly. We have to fight first to the the top of the hill, we had to walk up in quite and dark path that is quite (no lights at some point). It is advisable to bring your own flashlight, so you can let the course easier. For those who are not accustomed to exercise or lazy to move, a trip to the top is quite tiring. The trip to the top of the counter about 15 minutes by a fairly uphill terrain.
Around 05:30, the sun began to reveal behind the mountain. Many peoples were screaming and amazed. I was very lucky because the weather was sunny this morning, so i can see the sunrise clearly. Even Borobudur can be seen from here.
